报告摘要:
Explosive activities in renewableenergy research have fueled the urgent demand for high capacity electrode materials in energy storage. This seminarsummarizes the development of high performance electrode materials for non-lithium rechargeable batteries, and particularly sodium-ion batteries. This technology may eventually become a viable alternative in future to the commercial lithium-ion batteries, which, at present, play a predominant role in the market for portable electronic devices with a production more than 100 million cells/month and the consumption of 1500 tons/month of electrode materials. However, the availability of Li2CO3 is restricted to a few countries and lithium resources may become a strategic material in the near future with the booming of its cost and the raising of geopolitical issues. With this gloomy backdrop of lithium-ion batteries, several alternative technologies have been actively pursued by researchers around the world. Among them, the replacement of lithium with low-cost, high-abundant metals such as sodium, magnesium, and aluminum is attracting increasing interest. We have synthesized nanostructuredtransition metal sulfides as electrode materials and optimized the performance of these materials through nano-engineering. We have also explored the possibility of using porous carbonaceous phases as electrodematerials. All the electrode materials are made with high abundant and low cost constituentsand our goal is to obtain specific capacities of 300–500 mAh/g and 400–600 mAh/g for the carbonaceous phasesand transition metal sulfide-based materials, respectively. Representative examples of the preparation, optimization, and electrochemical performance of the synthesized electrode materials are discussed in detail.
